How Long Do Tape-In Extensions Last?

HowLongDoTapeInExtensionsLast_Blog

If you’re looking to solidify the Beautify Bond between yourself and your clients, there are a few questions you should know the answers to. One of the best ones is how long do tape-in extensions last.

We mean this as both how long they can stay in, and how many times the extensions themselves can be used. At some point, the hair will either grow out enough that the extensions will have to be removed and moved up, or the tape will lose its hold and need to be replaced. At that point the extensions will have to be reinstalled.

It’s important that you know when the extensions need to be reinstalled, and how many times they can be reinstalled. Let’s talk about what those limits are and how to extend them.

How Long Can Tape-In Extensions Be Used?

One of the appeals of tape-in extensions is that they can stay in the hair just about as long as other kinds of extensions. But this does depend on a few different factors, like the kind of tape used and how quickly the bio hair grows.

If you’re working with Beautify products, the tape should keep its hold for four to six weeks. However, you will need to make sure that you replace the tape every six weeks at latest. Waiting longer than that could make the tape difficult to remove.

Another factor is how quickly your client’s hair grows. If they have fast growing hair, it may only take about three weeks before the extensions need to be reinstalled further up the hair and closer to the scalp. For others, it could be closer to five or six weeks before the extensions grow out.

If you’re looking at the number of times a set of extensions can be used, there isn’t really a set amount of time. Extensions can essentially be used as long as there is hair in them. It’s a matter of how good they look.

During use, the extensions will be exposed to a number of forces. This will lead to them losing hair and starting to look worn. If extensions are used enough times, they will start to look like they may be falling apart. At that point, you’ll want to stop using them.

But there isn’t a good way to gauge how long this will take. For some clients and some extensions, it could be after a handful of installs. With others, it could take dozens of installs. It has everything to do with how they’re used and how they’re treated.

How Can I Make the Extensions Last Longer?

One of the biggest factors in how many times a set of extensions can be used is how they’re treated in the salon. While the way that your client treats the extensions can make a difference, how you prep and treat them during reinstall is a big deal.

There are steps you can take and products you can use that will help extend the life of your extensions.

Leave-In Conditioner

One of the best products you can use to help make sure your client’s extensions last as long as possible is Beautify’s Leave-In Conditioner. This conditioner is made to help keep extensions looking healthy and beautiful.

Leave-In Conditioner helps reduce:

  • Frizzing
  • Tangles
  • Dryness

Plus, it is color safe and is made for all hair types, so it’s easy to use with any set of extensions.

To use it, you simply spray it on the hair after install and leave it in. That’s it! It is one of the easiest ways to extend the life of your client’s extensions.

Beautify Removers

Another set of products that could help with the look and life of your client’s extensions is adhesive removers. These removers can help in a couple of different ways.

One way is by breaking down the hold the tape has on the bio hair. This makes it easier to remove the extension, causing less stress on it.

The other is helping remove the tape from the weft itself. While we do design our tapes to not leave much residue, there are certain adhesives that tend to leave a residue more than others. These removers help keep the extensions looking and feeling healthy by helping remove the adhesive entirely.

Let’s go over what these removers are.

Other Tips

There are other things that you can do to help extend the life of a set of extensions, beyond using our products. One is making sure that your client has more than one set of extensions to use.

If your client would like to, they can buy more than one set of the extensions that they want. This way, when reinstalling the extensions, you can use the set that hasn’t been used. Switching between two sets of extensions provides a break for the extensions from time to time.

When doing this, your client gets to use their extension for twice as long as they normally would.

Another thing you can do to help make sure your clients get the full use out of their extensions, is giving them these tips:

  • Wait at least 48 hours before washing hair.
  • Use sulfate-free shampoos & conditioners.
  • Avoid using conditioner close to the tape bond.
  • Hold the tape bond securely to the head while brushing.
  • Brush at the tips and work slowly up the hair.
  • Sleep with hair in a loose ponytail.

When they follow these tips and tricks, their extensions will stay taped in and look better for longer.

All of this will help make sure that your client is looking as great as they feel. It will help you build the Beautify Bond with your client and create a loyal customer for life.
