How to Tell If Your Products Have Expired

ExpiredProducts_Blog

We talk an awful lot about the Walker Way and the Beautify Bond. But there is one aspect of those philosophies that we haven’t covered yet: making sure your products are still good.

Of course, we don’t mean in quality. We already know that your Walker Tape and Beautify products are reliable and a fantastic choice for your clients. We mean that they are still “fresh” and that they haven’t expired.

You may be wondering how products like ours can expire. Most of them are tapes and liquid adhesives. But adhesive, whether in a bottle or on a tape, can lose its ability to hold after a while. If a product has expired, your client’s system or extensions may not hold as long as you promise.

Because of this, it’s a good idea to know how long your products last and what can make them lose their effectiveness. This will help keep your clients happy and coming back to you time and time again.

We here at Beautify and Walker Tape want to help you achieve that happiness with your clients. Here’s a guide on how to tell if your products are still good and how to keep them good for longer.

Have My Products Expired?

Beautify and Walker products have a long shelf life, but it is limited. Tapes can last up to a year before they start losing effectiveness. For liquids, it’s about six months.

These are estimations and there isn’t an exact day that they will start losing tack or adhesion. They may last a bit longer or not quite as long as you’re expecting. However, it should be close to the amount of time mentioned.

One of the best ways to know if your products are still good is to keep a record of when you opened them. You can label them with the date they were opened. That way, you can do some quick mental math to be sure if they are still worth using.

It’s also a good idea to keep track of how you’re storing your products. This can make a big difference in how long they can last. But we’ll go into more detail about that later.

Another way to know if your products are still good is by testing them. As long as you’re not allergic to the adhesive, you can just test the tape on your own skin.

Just remove the liner of one piece of tape and press the tape to your skin. If the tack is still strong (meaning it grabs on easily), it’s likely still good. You can leave the tape on for a few minutes to check that the adhesion (how well it holds on) is still good as well.

But, as you may guess, this kind of test doesn’t work as well on our non-adhesive products. When it comes to prep and system care products, you may do best just to label the packaging when you open them.

How Do I Keep Them Good for Longer?

Knowing how to tell if a product is good is great, but there is more to this part of the Walker Way and Beautify Bond. Another aspect is doing what you can to keep them working for longer.

The best way to do this is by storing them correctly. This includes:

  • Storing them away from direct sunlight
  • Keeping them in a cool, dry place
  • Making sure they are sealed properly

If you do the things listed above, your Beautify and Walker products should last for as long as their max shelf life. If not, they may start losing their effectiveness much more quickly.

When it comes to storing these products, it’s also good to remember that some of the liquids are flammable. So, they should be stored away from open flame and in a cool, and preferably dark spot.

Another good way to make sure that your products stay good for longer is by rotating through your stock. Always make sure that you use up your open product before opening a new one.

Once the products are opened and exposed to light and air, the countdown for them losing effectiveness starts. This is especially the case for liquid products. So, making sure that a product is completely done could help you extend the life of your products.

It can also help to use the products you bought first before any others. For example, if you have a store of five bottles of Extreme Hold liquid adhesive, put the newer bottles in the back. This makes it easier to use the older bottles first.

As mentioned, making sure that your products are good and fresh is part of the Walker Way and Beautify Bond. But if you’re new to Walker Tape and Beautify products you may not know what these are. Don’t worry, we won’t leave you in the dark.
